Guangzhou, once better known to Westerners as Canton, is China’s busiest transport and trade hub and the third-largest city in the country. Being an excellent port on the Pearl River navigable to the South China Sea, the city serves as the political, economic, scientific, educational and cultural center in Guangdong area. The city acts as the pioneer of the economic development of the country, with numerous enterprises, which offer many job opportunities and make the city a heavily populated area. Guangzhou is especially prosperous in commerce, tourism, dining, finance and real estate. For travelers, the city shows much attraction through its famous sights.
Its location on the Pearl River and proximity to Hong Kong has made Guangzhou a strategic port for centuries. Glimpse old temples and gleaming steel towers on an architectural tour. Visit one of four Chimelong theme parks for thrills and chills. Guangzhou is considered the home of traditional (read Cantonese) “Chinese food.” Foodies will find more restaurants per capita here than anywhere else in China.
Bingsheng is most famous for its char siu, or barbecued pork. Wading through the huge picture menu (which includes English) can be a task, so look for the specialties: the chef's black barbecue pork is a signature, as well as the homemade, extra silky tofu, and enormous, piping hot pineapple buns.
Buongiorno is one of the latest batch of Western restaurants in Guangzhou. The restaurant is owned and staffed by Italians. Pizzas are very tasty, with perfect bread and just the right amount of toppings.

Catwalk Disco & Club is one of the premier clubs in Guangzhou. Whether it’s DJs busting out beats, live music rocking the house, or models strutting down the runway, there’s always something going on at Catwalk.
Guangzhou is quite a sprawling city and even the tourist attractions are spread out enough to make exploring it by foot impractical. The city boasts a very good subway system which will satisfy most transport needs while taxis are fine for those hard to reach places. If you’re staying in Guangzhou for an extended period it might be worthwhile to buy a Yang Cheng Tong card. It can be used to pay for the subway, buses and some taxis as well as some goods in shops.
1- Subway - The system is modern, clean and easy to navigate. All the stations that tourists are likely to have English signs and there are announcements in English on the trains telling you the name of the next station. The first trains start from the ends of the lines around 6am while the last ones leave around 11pm. Trains arrive every 4-7 minutes. The subway system covers most of the major tourist attractions, the train stations and also BaiyunAiport. And the system is constantly being expanded.
2- Taxi - Taxi is the most convenient way to get around Guangzhou when the subway isn’t an option. There are dedicated taxi stands around the city, but you can usually hail a cab from anywhere. To avoid communication problems, take the name of your destination written in Chinese and show it to the taxi driver.
3- Bus - Especially because of the language barrier, using the bus isn't recommended. All bus stop names and routes are in Chinese, making it almost impossible for foreigners to get directions. And the audio instructions are in Chinese, so it's hard to know when to get off. In addition, it's usually crowded, and pickpockets are common. Finally, a lot of streets in Guangzhou are one-way, so it's unlikely you'll find the return bus on the same street where you got off. Buses are very cheap too.
